ACCURATE AND RELIABLE SEROLOGICAL TESTS FOR THE DIAGNOSIS OF INFECTIOUS DISEASES

The Eurospital Infectiology Product Line (EIL) offers a panel of ELISA and indirect immunofluorescence tests primarily for the serological diagnosis of pathogens responsible for diseases of the respiratory, gastrointestinal and obstetrical tracts.

The serological detection of antibodies against infectious agents constitutes an effective diagnostic screening approach, allowing the clinician to direct the patient to a correct investigation of the suspected pathology or to therapeutic intervention. In addition to infections by microorganisms, the increase in respiratory diseases is also increasingly linked to air pollution and passive smoking, and it is therefore important to rule out an infectious cause a priori. The use of serology is also extremely important in the diagnosis of diseases in immunosuppressed and transplanted patients, for whom the determination of immune status is crucial, and in screening programmes aimed at pregnant women at risk of maternal-fetal infections.
